Professional Dog Trainers
Training dogs is challenging.
And with some breeds it can be very challenging. Seeking the help of a professional dog trainer is sometimes the best way to ensure you get the most out of your dog. Especially if you have a serious case, such as aggression issues or a rescue dog that has come with a lot of problems you don't know how to train out of him.
Be wary though, sadly there are many 'professional dog training' schools who are run by inexperienced individuals who are just after your money - and training an unruly dog can get quite expensive.
What to Look For in a
Professional Dog Trainer.

 |
A professional dog trainer should first and foremost know about your particular breed - they should ideally know about all breeds - their traits and characteristics, trainability and likely motivations. Professional dog trainers should also have no qualms with you testing their knowledge or questioning their training methods and prices.
A professional dog trainer should also know how to handle dogs and how to read their body signs. A trainer should be calm and comfortable, authoritative without being abusive and able to gain the dogs' trust reasonably quickly.
Baring in mind that you might be working with this trainer for many months, it is just as important that you get on with the trainer as the dog.
Try to find a dog trainer that is recommended by your breeds official fan club, these are trainers who should have been tried and tested before they were recommended.
What to Avoid in a Dog Trainer
If your new trainer is jumpy with your aggressive dog, for example, it is likely that they don't know what they are doing any better than you do. A professional dog trainer should be able to read the dog, if they cant, then they are probably not a professional.
Many dog trainers still use outdated and cruel methods to force a dog to comply, there is no reason for this and should not be tolerated.
Remember that not all dog trainers are the same. Some will be specialist in certain breeds or certain behavioural issues. A professional dog trainer though should at least be able to recommend someone who can help you with your dogs troubles.
