Dog Health
Your dogs health is obviously going to be the most important factor to keeping him happy and fit and luckily most dogs are healthy by nature and can easily live long lives without any serious incident.
Hereditary Factors - These are factors that came about due to the inbreeding necessary to create some breeds. They are passed down from one dog to the next but the severity of the condition varies.
Breeders for all breeds are working to remove or reduce these conditions from their stock by not breeding badly affected dogs.
When buying a puppy you should always get one that has been screened for the ailments common to that particular breed and never breed a dog that has a bad score. Dogs that do have a bad score can still make wonderful pets but you should bear in mind that there could be extra cost involved. |

There are also many non gene linked conditions that can strike your dog. Most of these are easily cured or preventable, such as fleas, but some of the viral conditions can be more threatening. The key here is vaccination and prevention before your dog gets ill as many of the conditions cannot be cured once your poor dog has contracted the disease.
