Which Dog Breed is Best For Me?
Dogs vary hugely from breed to breed.
Not only in terms of their trainability, but in their personalities, the amount of physical and mental stimulation they need and how much they are going to eat.
All dogs are different, with some having totally opposite requirements compared to others and you need to make sure you choose a breed that will fit into your lifestyle, rather than trying to alter your way of life to suit the breed.
Key points to think on include:
|
 |
-
How much exercise does he need to be happy?
-
How much food is he going to eat?
-
How big is he going to get?
-
How much grooming will he need?
-
How trainable is he likely to be?
-
How will he look?
-
How much will he shed?
-
How aggressive will he be towards other people and animals?
-
How much is he going to cost?
All these points need to be thought about carefully, as all will affect your choice of breed. Remember as well though that how the dog turns out in terms of his behaviour is almost entirely in the hands of the owner. If you get a Cocker Spaniel and train him wrong then he will become very aggressive and difficult to deal with, on the other hand a Rottweiler treated correctly can be a wonderful, gentle, loving, companion dog.
So don't assume too much about the mind set from the breed.
