Temperament: Pembroke corgis are friendly, active and attentive dogs that are very loyal to their owners. They make great little guard dogs as they have a tendancy to bark at anything that comes on to their territory. Pembroke corgis were bred to herd large animals such as cattle by nipping at their heels and some individuals will try this technique on children.
Ease of Training: Ranked 11th on the dog intelligence scale, they are quick to learn and eager to please, though some individuals do show a stubborn streak. Food seems to be the best motivation for the corgi, so training is easiest just before they are fed, when they are eager to work for a treat.
Special Training: Despite having such little legs corgis do very well at dog agility and many individuals learn advanced obedience. Pembroke corgis are still used for herding events.
