English Bull Dog - Strong in Mind and Body |
Average size and life span: Chunky Medium, 12+ years
Exercise levels: Low – Bull dogs require surprisingly little in the way of exercise and are well suited to city living.
A medium length walk each day is usually sufficient - as well as some time to play to run about in the garden. Be careful walking bulldogs in hot weather as they can be prone to over heating.
Bull dogs are also prone to becoming over weight as their shape is always 'portly' looking. Bull dogs, just the same as all dogs, should have a visible waist. |

Grooming: Bull dogs have short wiry coats that are shed through out the year. Though bull dogs are by no means heavy shedders, they do benefit from a brushing once a week just to remove dead hair and minimise shedding around the house.
Temperament: Despite their name bull dogs are naturally very gentle dogs that are affectionate and loving and great with children. They're very loyal and dignified but often have a rather bizarre sense of humour. Early socialisation with other dogs is a must for this breed.
Ease of Training: Low – Medium. Bull dogs are renown for their stubbornness and you will need to show him who is boss from day one if you want to be able to keep him under control.
Special Training: Bull dogs tend to be rather lazy and having the squashed face means they can suffer from breathing issues when exercising hard. But they do make fantastic companion dogs who are full of character.
